OTHER BREAKING NEWS
Suffolk County’s largest outdoor concert venue
is ready to put a show back on for Long Islanders!
“It’s important to get everybody working, back into going out and going to concerts again,” said John Caracciolo, president of Long Island Events and JVC Broadcasting. His company manages and operates Long Island Community Hospital Amphitheater at Bald Hill. the amphitheater in Farmingville will be kicking off the summer with a new concert series. The series, which will run every weekend in June, is featuring different local bands.
Tickets only cost $10 each show!
It’s the first live show at Bald Hill in over a year since the COVID-19 shutdown. “It’s more than just the bands,” said Caracciolo. “There’s the sound crew, there’s the load in and out crew, there’s our concessionaire, our ticket takers, our cleanup guys, so I wanted to get everybody back to work — we’re not gonna get rich off it, but we’re going to pay everybody and everyone is going to have a nice night out.”
With approximately 7,000 capacity — there are 2,800 seats with room for 4,000 more on its lawn — concert-goers can spread out.
Recently, Gov. Andrew Cuomo increased the capacity to 33 percent for outdoor venues, so next week 2,600 people will be allowed to enter each performance. “Every seat offers a great view, the sound system is of national act level, there will be plenty of food trucks around the perimeters of the venue, there will be some craft beer service there,” said Caracciolo. “It will be a really great atmosphere, we’re trying to keep everything low cost, and not be too expensive for a whole family if they want to come out.”
As the occupancy changes with the COVID-19 compliance, the venue will be able to feature national level acts.

Which musician did Aretha Franklin definitely NOT want missing from the line-up when she recorded her most inspired albums at the beginning of the seventies. Who provided the back-beat for Steely Dan's "Aja", and for whom have Isaac Hayes, Donny Hathaway, B.B. King, "Sweet" Lou Donaldson, Joe Cocker and Hank Crawford reserved that stool behind the drum kit? The list is incomplete; it must be, because no other drummer in the last three decades has seen the interior of a recording studio as often as Bernard "Pretty" Purdie. A native of Elkton, Maryland - Purdie has laid down the beat on over 3000 albums to date.
The legendary drummer's style is described as the "funkiest soul beat" in the business. Purdie has never limited his talents, but has consistently sought out new musical experiences, anchoring sessions with the Rolling Stones, James Brown and Tom Jones with equal ease. "DRIVE" and "GROOVE" are definitely not missing from his vocabulary.
